Gatemen Board Approves Legal Action Against WooSox

The Herald has reported that the Gatemen are pursuing legal actions at the Worcester Red Sox (the WooSox). One of the WooSox’s secondary “W” logos closely resembles the Gatemen’s “W” logo that they’ve used for years and trademarked in 2014. Per trademark law, the Gatemen must defend their trademark or risk losing its exclusive rights.

“It’s clearly our ‘W,’ ” Wareham Gatemen senior vice president Glen Hannington told the Herald. “We earned that ‘W.’ ”

The primary WooSox “W” logo is not part of the legal dispute. That logo has a heart in the middle, intended to indicate Worcester as the heart of Massachusetts.
