Developers proposed a project on Tuesday that includes a ballpark for the Wareham Gatemen.

Wareham Park would be a 275-acre horseracing and entertainments venue built at the estimated cost of $300 million. The mile-long thoroughbred horseracing track is intended to be comparable to New York's historic Saratoga Race Course. But more importantly for Cape League fans, it would include a new home for the Gatemen.

The Wareham Gatemen organization supports the new development. Gatemen President Thomas Gay said, "We have a long history in Wareham and believe that a new stadium will allow us to better meet the needs of our players and the community... Moreover, a new stadium would attract tournaments and other events to benefit the town."

WBUR explained that there are many hurdles for developers to overcome before the project proceeds. If everything goes according to plan, the Gatemen could move to the new park for the 2022 season.
