Poythress Ties it Up in the 5th; West Fights Back in 6th

After pulling off an inning-ending double play in the top of the 5th, the East battled back. Orleans' Rich Poythress (Georgia) went deep to the opposite field to tie the game up. The homer, a shot down the right field line, was nearly identical to A.J. Pollock's. Poythress had made an error at third in the top of the 5th, when he jostled a routine ground ball.

The West erupted in the 6th with a double steal, a throwing error by Chatham's Grant Green (Southern California), a 2-run double by Hyannis' Ben Paulsen (Clemson), and then a couple hits and a sacrifice fly to give them a 6-1 lead. The East were forced to go to the bullpen early to put out the fire. Martin Viramontes (Loyola Maramount) was charged with the 4 earned runs.
